A NOD TO THE PAST WITH A CONTEMPORARY EXPRESSION

In working with Frankfurter, Johan Ansander sought a simple form with different dimensions than previous projects with a more physical and intimate feeling. The inspiration came from something as well known as the shape of one’s own forearm. The result is a chair with more volume in the material, substantial radii and a calm, cohesive expression. This is seen not least in how the backrest meets the legs, where the construction is allowed to be both clear and soft.

The chair is made of molded beech, a Swedish wood species and common in this industrial process, which makes it durable from two perspectives. Frankfurter is robust, durable and made to be used, inspired by the type of everyday chairs that emerged in the mid-1930s furniture that could withstand life, movement and a little rough handling, without losing its shape or function.

"The name Frankfurter is a nod to the past...

… but the expression is contemporary. It is a chair that doesn’t try to be more than it is, and that is precisely why it becomes something special.
