28 years on – new chairs, same vision
Johan immediately said yes, and together with architect Helena Nyholm at Sesam Arkitekter—the perfect sounding board for Johan—they were commissioned to enable the conversion from small to large.
Their theme became a farm with a barn, stalls, and a large pasture. The pasture was expressed through a green terrazzo floor, where the cows could graze, and the pine plank walls gained a weathered patina through glaze. The bar, centrally placed in the venue, became a grove of trees with a living canopy thanks to a tile that Johan and his wife Malin had found in Ibiza. It shimmers, supports, and frames the very engine and heart of the operation: the bar, kitchen, and prep area.
In the room, there are also five pillars that, with the help of various mosaics and tiles, were given their very own characters—each one symbolizing the five basic tastes: bitter, sour, salty, sweet, and umami.
The furniture was the easy part—since that’s what we at Blå Station do best, of course all the furniture comes from us, including the sound absorbers in the ceiling and on some of the walls.
Johan Lindau’s chair Gutang, which had been in place for 28 years, was replaced by the chair Momang, a somewhat younger chair that Johan designed in 2000 for another restaurant and which was reintroduced into production by Blå Station in 2021. The sofa system BOB was used instead of fixed wall benches, and Blå Station’s table base Bit was color-matched to the floor to seemingly disappear, while in front of the bar the barstool OXO was chosen—its simple form not hiding the beautifully decorated bar front.
The sound absorber Ginkgo in a dark green color reflects foliage and provides pleasant acoustic damping.
All lighting was developed in collaboration with Ateljé Lyktan.
Bar.B.Ko, in new attire, opened in the summer of 2023. And as the finishing touch, their food and wine offer a class you rarely find elsewhere. In other words—cuisine and design in symbiosis. Welcome!
